Sailing at Shoreham
We
had 20 sessions at Shoreham through the year. Despite the bad weather for much
of the summer we only had one day completely cancelled, though on several
occasions we were limited to use of the powerboats only or we organised indoor
activities. We had a total of 108 sailors who took a total of 350 Trips. With
the exhibition at Take part we contacted some extra local care homes. As a
result we have had many more people coming for a ride in one of the powerboats
in the second half of the year. We have now planned some weekdays next year
when we will just take out care home sailors in the powerboats and Marky the
Drascombe Lugger.
Sonars
The Sonars have
proved very popular with up to seven people going out in each one for the
pursuit races. Despite this handicap Geronimo was second in the Autumn Pursuit
series. Next year we are thinking of entering the Sunday series as well so as
to give people opportunities to sail. It would be a great help if anyone who
could act as skipper would contact Kevin Headon. Cowes was a great
success. The
boats have also been used for a variety of training activities. The
picture shows the clean lines of the Sonar when in the hoist. We
must register our thanks to SYC for agreeing to give us free use of the hoist-
this helps to keep down the cost of both the Cowes trip and our layup.
Access Season Successes
We
record here the efforts of our sailors on the Access racing circuit: Pat
Jackson achieved a second a third and two fourth places with an overall eighth
place in the Travellers Trophy third place in the National Championships. Janet
Lee had two firsts two seconds and a fifth in the Travellers Trophy. She was
second overall. She was Fifth in the UK National Championships and third in the
French National Championship We
welcome Katy Turquoise to racing this year. Despite being new to racing she was
seventh overall out of 36 boats in the Access 303 class over the Travellers
Trophy series. Christmas dinner
